Utricularia involvens
(Gunung Jerai, Malaysia)

In collectie Ridl. (1895)

Description

Utricularia involvens is a medium-sized, probably perennial, carnivorous plant that grows in situ in Southeast Asia and Northern Australia. It forms a mat of light green leaves and makes long flower stems that wrap around grass stems and twigs. Several yellow flowers are arriving here.

Distribution

Floristic provinces

Indochina Andamanes South Indochina
Malesia Malaya
Northeast Australia North Australia

Malaya, Myanmar, Northern Territory, Thailand

Habitat

This terrestrial species thrives in moist grasslands and open vegetation, often on wet, sandy soils from sea level to an altitude of 900 meters.

Cultivation

Moist to wet, nutrient-poor substrate (peat/sand or peat/perlite), light and 20-25°C. Always soft water (I use osmosis). I grow them in plugs in a water bowl where they form a mat and grow quickly over the edge, see photos.

Flowering Period

Blooms better in high humidity, it seems. They have a stick/skewer to wrap around.
